Red Seal Certification

The Red Seal allows qualified trades people to practice their trade in any province or territory without having to write additional examinations, thus improving labour mobility in Canada and saving time and resources by eliminating the need for multiple examinations. This instruction is geared to the industry professional who needs to learn more about the theories of cooking but may not have to ability to do so on his/ her own. Students must get their 3000 industry hours (Assistant Cook), 5000-6000 hours (Baker), 6000 hours (Cook) and 6000-7000 hours (Baker / Patissier) on their own, as Ontario Chef School offers only tutorial instruction, with no lab time.

WHO YOU ARE

A Cook or Baker who feels the need for tutoring in the Curriculum set by the Ministries of Education, Colleges and Training in Canada.

You wish to obtain your Red Seal Certification and to advance in the Hospitality Industry.

Perhaps you are ready to write your exam, but would like to determine that you are indeed prepared for the Ministry's examination. A 70% passing grade is required to obtain your Red Seal. There is a three month delay before a failed Red Seal applicant can rewrite the R.S.C. exam.

  • You could write Ontario Chef School's Practice Exam which is based on the Curriculum and the types of questions which appear on the Ministry's Red Seal Examination. This costs $65.00.
  • Some students will write the Diagnostic Test which helps them to understand what aspects of the Curriculum require more studying. It costs $65.00.
 

WHAT WE DO

We offer private tutoring for cooks and bakers who wish to obtain their Red Seal from the Ontario Apprenticeship Ministry.

  • We prepare you to write your exam through lessons, tutorials, assignments and testing
  • Private tutoring is available or small classes of up to twelve persons.
  • E-teaching is available through the Internet
  • Instruction is individual; go as quickly or as slowly as you wish
  • No required number of classes to sign up for.

Our Lessons correspond to the Curricula set by the Human Resources Development Corporation as Interprovincial Standards in Canada for Cooks, Assistant Cooks, Bakers, and Baker/Patissi¸rs.

 

WHAT IT COSTS

E-teaching and Lessons By Mail (Correspondence)

  • Each lesson - $65.00
  • Entire 16 lesson course - $800.00

Tutoring

  • Diagnostic Test (mandatory for individual lessons) - $65.00
  • Tutored Classes - $37.50 per hour or $130.00 for one four-hour class Course of 16 Lessons - $2400.00
  • Individual Tutoring - $50.00 per hour or $180.00 for one four-hour class Course of 16 Lessons - $3200.00

Introducing: Single Topic Lessons for Cooks and Bakers

  • Now you can buy lessons more selectively, concentrating only upon those topics that you really need. Single lessons are available, covering every facet of the curriculum. For example: you are not experienced in butchery but are very experienced in meat cookery. A lesson which gives in-depth information on butchery is available. A lesson on meat, poultry and fish butchery is also available. Etc. Each lesson covers all of the required information from The Ministry of Colleges, Education and Training, to get you through your Red Seal Exam.
    Each lesson costs $30.00.
